Shortly after being selected Mitt Romney’s vice presidential running mate, Paul Ryan gave an interview to CNN in which he listed Rage Against the Machine and Nirvana as his favorite bands.
And Rage’s guitarist, Tom Morello, ain’t flattered.

“Paul Ryan’s love of Rage Against the Machine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades,” Morello wrote in an opinion column submitted to Rolling Stone on Thursday, “…I wonder what Ryan’s favorite Rage song is? Is it the one where we condemn the genocide of Native Americans? The one lambasting American imperialism? Our cover of ‘Fuck the Police’? Or is it the one where we call on the people to seize the means of production? So many excellent choices to jam out to at Young Republican meetings!”
Tom Morello went on to explain that his opposition to Romney and Ryan’s campaign is rooted in their invidious attitudes towards the LGBTQ people and women, “Don’t mistake me, I clearly see that Ryan has a whole lotta ‘rage’ in him: A rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment.”
And while no surviving members of Nirvana have commented yet, Ghurl, TALK! cannot imagine Kurt Cobain would have been too enthused to hear he was among homo-hating Ryan’s fave musicians, either. An activist in his own right, Cobain told The Advocate in December of ’93 that he “will always be an advocate for fagdom.”
